The base and <br /> boarder material shall be consistent with and/or <br /> compliment the building materials. <br /> <br />Commission Questions of Staff: <br />Dalton asked how staff had determined to recommend a 10' height standard instead of the <br />current 14'. <br /> <br />Wood explained that the recommendation came forward after a discussion with sign contractors <br />and not wanting the appearance of a menu board if the height remains at 14'. <br /> <br />Lipton discussed the appearance of the Christopher Plaza sign, the amount of vertical signage <br />close to a roadway, and the need to keep signs at a pedestrian scale. <br /> <br />Wood agreed that they signs should be kept to a total of 50 SF and perhaps either a vertical or <br />horizontal orientation could work at some locations. <br /> <br />Commission discussion followed regarding vertical vs. horizontal signs: <br />Pritchard asked when the height of a sign causes it to lose the effectiveness and readability. <br /> <br />Lipton stated that we should be looking for a balance. <br /> <br />Pritchard questioned if a pedestrian scale is 6-7 feet. <br /> <br />Dalton expressed concern that most of the traffic is vehicular and that he does not understand <br />the concern for the scale in relation to pedestrians. <br /> <br />Sheets stated she thought the readability would still be good at a 6' height. She sees that the <br />readability will be lost when the sign lacks separation of tenant identification signs (panels). <br /> <br />Dalton expressed that the inside lane of traffic might not have the readability and perhaps the <br />Commission should consider a 10' height and 2 monument signs per site. <br /> <br />Deborski asked staff to explain how sign height is calculated. <br />
