i.In October there will be an exhibit of historical photos in the Library’s first
floor glass caseswith the theme “Who Do We Think We Are” after the
genealogy-themed television show. Bridget is putting together the exhibit.
ii.On November 3 at 7 p.m. Museum volunteer Gail Khasawneh will givea
presentationon Louisville residents who served in World War II.
c.We hope for more collaborative programs next year. Some ideas include having
Beth Barrett present on historical theaters of Colorado from her book, Bridget on
recently donated historic photos, and joint participation in the One Book Program.
d.Museumprojects for next year include a new sign, which is alreadyin the budget and
working towards more digitization of photos including possibly applying for a grant to
do so. Bridget Bacon indicated that she would like to eventually applyfor a grant to
fund the creation of a short film culled from oral history interviews.
e.Library projects for next year include a resume writing workshop, music in the Library
during the holiday season, banned books week and thecontinuation of the summer
reading program. The Library Boardplans to better understand the Library’suser
base and to increase collaboration with other libraries and boards.
f.The groups discussed how to get more visibility for the Museum and noted the
reduced funding for open hours. There is concern that the City will note reduced
visitors in 2010 and conclude dropping interest without remembering that open hours
have been curtailed. The Library Board of Trustees has a designated City Council
Liaison who has helped guide them. The Historical Commission has no similar
liaison.
g.Sally Burlingame raised the issue of the Jordinelli Housebuilding at the Historical
Museum–a resource we are unable to share with the public due to funding
restraints.
h.It was noted that the Library Board of Trustees has no fund raising responsibility
while the Historical Commission is both an advisory board as well as a fund raising
board. There is a separate fund raising arm for the Library, the Louisville Library
Foundation.
VII.Director’s Report
Beth Barrett reported that there willbe upcoming changes to the Library web site
including links to the Louisville Museum pages. She introduced Karen Freiter who gave a
presentation including a live linkto show the new view. The Trustees and the
Commission Members were both favorably impressed with the improvementsand believe
they will continue to support our mutual efforts.
VIII.Adjourn, 8:20p.m.
