Sustainability Advisory Board <br />Minutes <br />February 21, 2024 <br />Page 9 of 11 <br />It was moved (by Tiffany) and seconded (by Allison) that Todd write the draft of <br />the memo to Council, with support by Josh <br />Kevin recommended that if it could be included in this memo, a statement should <br />encourage the Council to be firm in requiring builders to abide by the current <br />energy building codes. (He recalled that two City Council meetings ago a <br />developer presented a need to get a waiver from 2021 ICC codes.) He <br />emphasized the importance of adhering strictly to the requirements of the 2021 <br />codes, in light of the intensifying consequences of climate change. <br />Discussion Item: Sustainability Spotlight — <br />Kayla reviewed the components of the City's solid waste hauling RFP and asked <br />the board which components of the RFP were board priorities. See packet for <br />more information. <br />Public Comment <br />There was no public comment on this item. <br />Board Discussion <br />LSAB's discussion and resulting board priorities are outlined below: <br />• Board Priority: EV trucks — or EV transition plan <br />o Concern about "greenwashing" or unreliability with carbon offsets <br />for RNG trucks <br />• Board Priority: No limitations on compostables <br />• Recommend opt -in option for weekly recycling <br />o However, consideration about emissions due to more trucks on the <br />street <br />• Recommend large increases for larger trash bins — incentivize smaller <br />bins <br />
