He suggested the word
"historic" be added to the vision statement. He voiced his support for murals.
Mayor Pro Tem Marsella supported murals and the regulation of their size and leaving
the restrictions on sandwich boards. Councilor Yarnell concurred.
Councilor Dalton felt there should be nominal restrictions on murals. He did not believe
sandwich board signs present any problem.
Mayor Sisk voiced concern over the potential of a proliferation of sandwich board signs
and asked how many signs a business is allowed. City Planner McMillan stated one
sign per tenant is allowed.
Mayor Sisk supported murals as a use by right, but felt any expansion should require a
Special Review. He supported one sandwich board sign per business.
Councilor Muckle noted he received many complaints about the proliferation of
sandwich board signs and other signs along South Boulder Road however this has not
been an issue for downtown Louisville.
Mayor Pro Tem Marsella noted the guidelines stipulate a sandwich board sign must be
adjacent to the business, therefore no sandwich board signs would be allowed off
premises. Mayor Sisk supported one sandwich board sign off- premises to assist local
businesses.
Councilor Muckle asked why Staff prohibited off premise signs. Planning Director Russ
explained sandwich boards are allowed downtown because they have an urban
condition where the building has no set back and they do not have room for signs.
