~ ÉÆ0ÈÊÉÊ ÇÇ There will be a family movie night featuring the 2010 release of “The Karate Kid” on November 5. A career skills workshop on resume writing is scheduled for November 4, and a workshop on interviewing skills will be presented on December 9. D.Colorado Association of Libraries (CAL) Conference Beth noted that four Library staff members attended the recent conference in Loveland, as did Board member Meredith Davis. The proliferation of formats, as well as the changing role and increased use of libraries were recurring themes. Jamie LaRue, director of Douglas County Library District, noted that use does not equate to support, and that the model for libraries is/should be changing from a ‘grocery store’ to a ‘kitchen’. E.‘One Book’ Steering Committee Beth reported that the first meeting of the steering committee included the following: Frank Phillips, Mayor, City of Lafayette Chuck Sisk, Mayor, City of Louisville Erika Arias, Ryan Elementary Beth Barrett, Louisville Public Library Susan Booker, City of Lafayette Community Life Dept. Mary Commander, Superior resident and Louisville Public Library Foundation member Kathy Kelly, Louisville Public Library Eileen Patrick, Louisville Public Library Trustee Betsy Stroomer, Lafayette Public Library Steering Committee members not able to attend: Andrew Muckle, Mayor, Town of Superior Patty Frobisher, Lafayette Public Library Additionally, Beth met briefly with the author of the proposed book while she was in Washington, D.C. and plans to follow-up regarding an in-person or virtual author visit during the event.
