Parks & Public Landscaping Advisory Board
Minutes
July 10, 2024
Adam Blackmore: Tree alternatives are expensive. Consider tree placement when we
have all cost estimates.
Deborah Fahey: Another function of the trees in the Enclave Park is to provide habitat
for the birds, which can't live in a shade structure. The current planting list looks
acceptable, no comment on this, Glad there are no ornamental grasses in the list.
Sunflower Park
Presenter Bryon Weber, update on 60-80% review process. Have received feedback on
retaining existing trees, concerns for adjacent properties. The potential relocation of
plaza / patio with sunflower motif, will mean the tree doesn't have to be taken out.
Discussed a maple tree which needs to be removed in order to make the pathway ADA
compliant
Public comments:
Laura Scherer, 905 Sunflower: Thank you for keeping the large ash trees- they are the
only remaining mature trees in the neighborhood. Thanks for keeping turf and irrigation
in the design. Turf is almost all thistle - please improve turf. The current placement of the
plaza is now located where kids put soccer nets. The plaza will block that open space.
The gathering spot/plaza got fewer votes than flat open space - Small Park but the plaza
impedes use of the open space. Comment on the far north tree by Washington which is
identified to be saved, that one is not healthy and should be removed. Could the plaza
be relocated to that space?
Joshua Ondatje: confirm Laura's comments, please keep in mind trees which could
encroach on neighboring fences.
Mark Redpath - The tree which is being removed could be replaced. The placement of
plaza interrupts the large play space, please consider moving this north.
Jeff Todd - 991 Arapahoe Circle - whiffle ball player. The turf on the slope, the sledding
hills, is full of thistle which needs to be addressed as well as the irrigation. The
placement of the plaza is a problem.
Mark Redpath in the chat: Seems like you're losing the shade value of the trees along
the walk by placing most trees on the East and South side of the walk. I recommend
moving them to the North and West sides in order to shade the walk.
Mark Redpath: The red R maple tree, if it's going to be removed, could be replaced in an
adjusted placement for the walk, and still provide shade in the mid -day and afternoon.
