He stated his understanding the City wanted consistency in the computer
throughout the City's facilities.
Finance Director Leslie reviewed the background of the large computer purchase
two years ago. The purchase went through a bid process, and the low bidder was
Gateway Computer. She explained through the library computer bid process the
low bidder was Shea Computers. Shea Computer Company was recently
purchased along with another computer company by Nor-Tech Computers and
the company has been renamed Reason Computers. Reference checks were
run on Nor-Tech, and Shea Computer. Nor-Tech has been in business since
1998 and has a very good credit rating. Shea also had a good credit rating.
There is a five-year warranty for the computers, however, if the company fails,
the warranty will be nullified. She stated the City will save $7,000 by going with
Reason Computers.
Leslie explained Gateway and Dell computers both use the same Intel
processors and use the same operating system. The City's IT Staff is able to
download upgrades to all the City's computers through the servers. The new
computers will have the same versatility.
Mayor Sisk requested Library Director Mojo's comments.
Library Director Mojo stated there is somewhat of a risk. If the City does not get
the service expected it will be more costly, which may be the difference between
the low bidder and the next higher bid. She was willing to go with the low bidder
and the recommendation of the Finance Director.
Council member Muckle supported the Reason Computer bid. He asked if the
City will receive a service contract from any of the vendors. Finance Director
