City Council
Meeting Minutes
June 6, 2006
Council member Marsella asked if this system could be added at a later time.
Mr. Johnston confirmed the system could be integrated at a later time.
Council member Muckle asked if the Library project is under budget. Deputy City
Manager Boyd confirmed the library project is under budget.
Mayor Sisk supported energy efficient measures and requested consideration of
additional solar panels. He requested the cost for the balance of the study and
stated the discussion would be continued under the Library Update report.
UPDA TEIDISCUSSION ON XCEL'S PROPOSED FOOTHILLS COMPRESSOR
STATION FACILITY APPLICATION FILED WITH BOULDER COUNTY
City Manager Simmons reviewed the Boulder County Commissioners public
hearing on Xcel Energy's Foothills Compressor Station Facility Application. On
May 23, 2006 at 5:00 PM the Boulder County Commissioners heard public
testimony on Xcel's Proposed Foothills Compressor Station Facility application.
Numerous members of the public spoke in opposition and/or support of the three
potential site alternatives for the Foothills Compressor station location. The
potentials locations included expansion of the current Louisville site, a location
further east from the current Louisville site on Dillon Rd (the Schreiter property)
and a location on Marshall Rd. adjacent to the Marshall landfill.
Testimony was given by residents of the Coal Creek Home Owner's Association,
the Archdiocese of Denver and others associated with the pending development
at the intersection of 96th and Dillon, representatives from the Town of Superior,
neighboring property owners within proximity to the Marshall Rd. site, and the
Mayor and City Council members of Louisville.
After 5 hours of testimony the Boulder County Commissioners closed the public
meeting and discussed the potential sites. Each Commissioner stated they did
not feel the current Louisville location was an appropriate place for an expanded
compressor station. They discussed the pros and cons of the Dillon Rd and
Marshall sites. The Commissioners chose to consider the alternatives before
them over the next two weeks and come back for a final decision at 9:00 AM on
June 8.
COUNCIL DISCUSSION
Council member Sackett noted there are several concerns over the expansion of
the compressor station at its current location including possible explosion, fire
and odor problems.
Council member Muckle stated he was impressed with the discussion and
optimistic the County Commissions would choose the Marshall site.
