City Council <br /> Meeting Minutes <br /> July 5, 2011 <br /> Page 3 of 15 <br /> City Manager Fleming stated he was only made aware of this situation today. The <br /> Parks and Recreation Director stated he will look into the alternatives to the earlier <br /> morning practice schedule. City Manager Fleming will work with staff on other options. <br /> Mayor Sisk reported on the success of the Louisville 4 of July celebration and the <br /> fireworks at the golf course. He thanked Public Relations Manager Meredyth Muth. With <br /> respect to the swimming pool issue, he believed a compromise could be reached. He <br /> felt the swimming coach would have to come forward and work with the City on <br /> scheduling the practice times. He reported on the joint meeting with the Town of <br /> Superior Board of Trustees where there was discussion about shared services. He <br /> noted there was not a Street Faire on July 1 but the downtown area still drew a <br /> significant number of people who strolled and dined downtown that evening. <br /> CITY MANAGER'S REPORT <br /> City Manager Fleming also commented on the popularity of the Downtown area and <br /> noted this evening was the first time he had difficulty finding a parking space and had to <br /> park several blocks away. He reported Monday, July 11, at 3:00, is the grand opening <br /> of the Boulder County Hazardous Waste Facility. He addressed the concern expressed <br /> about the crosswalks at Pine and Front Street and stated one of the Capital <br /> Improvement Project includes improvements to the intersection. In the mean time the <br /> Public Works Staff will look at temporary solutions. <br /> REGULAR BUSINESS <br /> PROCLAMATION RELAY FOR LIFE <br /> Mayor Sisk read the proclamation for the "Relay of Life The American Cancer Society <br /> will hold its annual East Boulder County Relay for Life on August 5, 2011 at Monarch <br /> High School. They are also sponsoring a "Paint the Town Purple" event to raise cancer <br /> awareness in conjunction with the July 8th Street Faire by "painting" purple ribbons on <br /> the street posts of Main Street, Spruce and Walnut Streets leading to the Street Faire. <br /> Janeen Hill, Event Chair of the East Boulder County Relay for Life American Cancer <br /> Society accepted the proclamation. She stated the event serves Louisville, Lafayette, <br /> Erie and Superior. She noted last year's event raised $8,500 for the fight against <br /> cancer. She thanked the Mayor and Council for their recognition and support. <br /> PROCLAMATION `ON THE SAME PAGE' PROJECT <br /> Mayor Sisk proclaimed the start of Louisville and Lafayette Public Libraries' first -ever <br /> One Book event, 'On The Same Page.' The residents of Louisville, Superior, and <br /> Lafayette join together this year to find out what happens when everyone reads the <br />
