Roll call vote was taken. The motion carried by a vote of 6-0. Absent: Mayor Pro Tem Brown. RESOLUTION No. 14, SER.IES 2007 - A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE EXPENDITURE OF FUNDS FOR THE PURCHASE OF ART FOR THE NEW PUBLIC LIBRARY Mayor Sisk requested a Staff presentation. Interim City Manager Balser E!xplained on September 19, 2006, the Louisville Public Library Foundation Board passed a unanimous resolution recommending the Louisville City Council designate a portion of the remaining library construction fund up to 1 % of the original capital construction bond funds to be spent on public art for the new library building. Several types of art have been considered and discussed. A selection committee would consist of members of the Library Foundation Board, the Library Board of Trustees, the Library Director, and the Library's Project Manager, Paul Wember. The committee would present their selections for review by City Council within the next three months. Staff recommended the Council authorize the expenditure of funds for art in the Library, not to exceed $74,000 or 1% of the amount of the general obligation bonds issued for the construction of the new library. Library Director Mojo explainE~d when the library construction began, the budget was tight and library officials did not foresee purchasing public artwork for the facility. After the construction was completed, it was determined there were funds available for purchasin!~ art for the library. She estimated an expenditure of $50,000 for art. COUNCIL COMMENT Council members Muckle and Clabots supported using local artists. Library Director Mojo confirmed local artists are being considered. Council member Sackett supported an expenditure of $50,000. Mayor Sisk questioned why tine City Council is involved in the selection of art. He hoped other members of the community, such as the Cultural Council, would be involved in the review of the art selection. MOTION: Council member Marsella moved to approve Resolution No. 14, Series 2007, to purchase artvIJork for the Louisville Library in an amount of $50,000, and in Sec 1, the balance of the sentence be deleted after the $50,000 dollar amount. Council member Sackett seconded the motion. Roll call vote was taken. The motion carried by a vote of 6-0. Absent: Mayor Pro Tem Brown.
