Roll call vote was taken. <br />The motion carried by a vote of 6-0. Absent: Mayor Pro Tem Brown. <br /> <br />RESOLUTION No. 14, SER.IES 2007 - A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE <br />EXPENDITURE OF FUNDS FOR THE PURCHASE OF ART FOR THE NEW <br />PUBLIC LIBRARY <br /> <br />Mayor Sisk requested a Staff presentation. <br /> <br />Interim City Manager Balser E!xplained on September 19, 2006, the Louisville <br />Public Library Foundation Board passed a unanimous resolution recommending <br />the Louisville City Council designate a portion of the remaining library <br />construction fund up to 1 % of the original capital construction bond funds to be <br />spent on public art for the new library building. Several types of art have been <br />considered and discussed. A selection committee would consist of members of <br />the Library Foundation Board, the Library Board of Trustees, the Library Director, <br />and the Library's Project Manager, Paul Wember. The committee would present <br />their selections for review by City Council within the next three months. Staff <br />recommended the Council authorize the expenditure of funds for art in the <br />Library, not to exceed $74,000 or 1% of the amount of the general obligation <br />bonds issued for the construction of the new library. <br /> <br />Library Director Mojo explainE~d when the library construction began, the budget <br />was tight and library officials did not foresee purchasing public artwork for the <br />facility. After the construction was completed, it was determined there were <br />funds available for purchasin!~ art for the library. She estimated an expenditure <br />of $50,000 for art. <br /> <br />COUNCIL COMMENT <br /> <br />Council members Muckle and Clabots supported using local artists. Library <br />Director Mojo confirmed local artists are being considered. <br /> <br />Council member Sackett supported an expenditure of $50,000. <br /> <br />Mayor Sisk questioned why tine City Council is involved in the selection of art. <br />He hoped other members of the community, such as the Cultural Council, would <br />be involved in the review of the art selection. <br /> <br />MOTION: Council member Marsella moved to approve Resolution No. 14, <br />Series 2007, to purchase artvIJork for the Louisville Library in an amount of <br />$50,000, and in Sec 1, the balance of the sentence be deleted after the $50,000 <br />dollar amount. Council member Sackett seconded the motion. Roll call vote was <br />taken. The motion carried by a vote of 6-0. Absent: Mayor Pro Tem Brown. <br />
