BRaD
Meeting Summary
October 3, 2011
Hank Dalton asked if we had a sense of what people’s opinions are when dealing at the
state and local level when choosing a site. More specifically, how hard is it to do business
in Colorado?
Bonnie pointed out that you need to maintain the relationship Louisville has with the State
Office of Economic Development and Metro Denver as they are typically the first point of
contact.
Malcolm said that Colorado can’t compete with financial incentives from other states, but
they can compete on:
Quality of Life
Leader in Energy
Collaboration across State and Local levels
Energy costs are relatively competitive
Access to well-qualified employees
Troy suggested that BRaD focus on entrepreneurial growth and Malcolm suggested
focusing on retention and then recruitment.
Michael Menaker said access to capital is key for entrepreneurs.
th
Bonnie informed everyone that at the October 25 Council Study Session, there will be a
discussion of an business incubator concept. Andrew Unkefer, interested in starting a
business incubator in Louisville is putting the word out to determine if there is an interest
and then he would need to seek out affordable leased space.
Barbara Butterworth, of the Bookseller, still has the north side of her building for lease.
There are two serious prospects looking at this location.
Paulie’s Gelato is closing so that space will be for lease. Owner has contacted Bonnie.
Brew/Pub establishments – contacted by 5 separate parties looking to open a brew/pub.
Planning Director Russ talked about zoning restrictions that would affect a brew/pub
establishment being located in downtown.
Tussey building is leased – a wellness center will be opening soon in this location.
Courtyard by Marriott has installed a B-cycle station for their guests, visitors and residents.
Cost is $9/hour.
Cabela’s says Thask, but no thanks to Louisville and the vacated Sam’s Club building.
Rite Aid/Checker Building – a good retailer still looking at the site. Some trees have been
removed along McCaslin to improve the visibility to the front of the building. Before and
after pictures have been taken.
Monument signs – Planning Director Russ looking at PUDs to determine where monument
signs are okay to install. If these become City-owned signs the City needs to make sure the
placement is equitable.
st
Bean and Berry – Jill Midgley said is doing well—celebrated 1 year anniversary. They’re
currently partnering with Doodlebugs on a “girls night out.”
Business Section on the City Website has been recently added. Contact Bonnie if you have
any “good news” to share on local businesses.
