Louisville City Council Meeting
August 7, 2001
Page 6

the Downtown Business Association has expressed concern with the elimination of
public parking spaces. Johnstone summarized Staff' s belief that the parking is adequate.

Community Facilitator Meredyth Muth, spoke on behalf of the Historical Commission.
She reviewed the background and the planned uses for the donated house. She stated that
the house is located at 1101 LaFarge, has 836 SF, plus a summer kitchen of 150 SF,
which sits off the back of the home. It is of the Queen Anne Architectural style, built in
1904, and has been determined to be historically significant by the National Landmark
Standards for Residential Development in Louisville, and represents the neighborhood's
Italian heritage. Muth noted that the house is architecturally significant} as is the summer
kitchen. The house is referred to as either the Jordinelli or DeRose house. It was built in
1904 and the Jordinelli family took possession of the home around 1910 to 1914. In the
1920's, Minnie DeRose, the daughter of the Jordinelli's, took possession of the home and
lived there until the early 1990's. Virginia Caranci, daughter of Minnie DeRose, is the
current owner of the home. Muth stated that if the house is moved to the museum site, it
would be compatible with the buildings already on the site. Initially the home would be
used for storage, but once renovated it will be used as a display. The summer kitchen
will sit behind the house and be restored to reflect its early 20m century status.

Davidson called for public comment.

Nancy Boudreau Love, 841 Front Street, President of the Downtown Business
Association, 908 Main Street, Louisville, CO, addressed the issue of a reduction of
eleven parking spaces at the Museum. She stated that the Downtown Business
Association strongly supports the relocation of the house, however they strongly oppose
the loss of eleven parking spaces. She stated that this project should be applicable to the
guidelines. She urged the City to replace the eleven spaces.

COUNCIL COMMENT

Howard concurred with the DBA that it is imperative that the City ensure that there is
adequate parking in downtown Louisville. He stated that it is extremely important that the
established guidelines are the same for the City of Louisville as they are for the
downtown merchants.

Mayer voiced concern that Council budgeted $15,000 for the project, which is already
over budget, but the cost of replacing the parking spaces was not budgeted. He concurred
with Love that the eleven parking spaces should be replaced, but he questioned whether
they would have to be immediately replaced.

Davidson asked Staff for the number of spaces vacated when the Police Department
moves to their new facility. Davidson estimated 16 to 17 spaces would be available.
Johnstone concurred that there would be at least 16 spaces.
