City Council <br /> Meeting Minutes <br /> February 18, 2014 <br /> Page 4 of 23 <br /> improved signage in front of the school. He noted 520 children walk to LMS daily and <br /> 110 children ride the bus. He stated LMS is a member of the Chamber of Commerce <br /> and the Downtown Business Association and one of the Main Street partners will do low <br /> cost physicals for the Louisville Middle School students. He noted the demographical <br /> changes to Louisville and stated LMS could handle whatever growth comes forward. <br /> He reported the LMS National Junior Honor Society volunteers 1,000 hours for the <br /> community for Food Share, the public library and many downtown events. He offered <br /> the LMS auditorium for City meetings or events at any time. <br /> LMS Staff: Their counselor was awarded the Counselor of the Year and their Assistant <br /> Principal was awarded Assistant Principal of the Year. The Louisville Middle School <br /> has received the John Irwin Award for ten years in a row. LMS partners with the <br /> Louisville Fire and Police Departments on the charitable Winter Slam Event, which is a <br /> basketball game between, the Police, Fire and LMS staff against the students to raise <br /> money for games and toys for needy children. They also partner with the YMCA of <br /> Boulder Valley for programs, which are held at LMS. <br /> Principal Fels is the Co-Chair of a new committee entitled CIPC, which will advise the <br /> Board of Education on the long-term facility needs of the District. CIPC and volunteers <br /> will work with district staff to identify and prioritize capital improvement needs. CIPC will <br /> be conducting public forums and the City Council is encouraged to attend one of those <br /> sessions. He thanked Council for their support of the Louisville Middle School. <br /> COUNCIL COMMENTS <br /> Council member Jasiak asked Principal Fels to keep the City Council informed as to the <br /> dates of the public forums. Principal Fels would keep the City Council informed on the <br /> dates of the forums and their progress. <br /> Mayor Muckle and Council thanked Principal Fels for his presentation. <br /> COMCAST CABLE FRANCHISE NEGOTIATION UPDATE <br /> Mayor Pro Tern Dalton provided an update on the Comcast Cable Franchise <br /> negotiations. There have been no changes from two weeks ago. The Committee is still <br /> refining their opening position and will lay out their initial information for Comcast to <br /> open the negotiations in the next couple of weeks. Later on the agenda is an Ordinance <br /> for first reading to extend the current franchise another six months, to October 11, 2014. <br /> This ensures sufficient time to work through our issues with Comcast. Mayor Pro Tern <br /> Dalton will continue to provide updates on the negotiations at Council meetings. <br /> PUBLIC COMMENT <br /> Alan Sobel, 1408 Kennedy, Louisville, CO began Part 2 of his presentation regarding <br /> open government and asked when the City Council will demand the City Manager's <br />
