1
II I
A motion was made , voted on and agreed to unanimously to hold a
monthly meeting with Steve Baysinger to update him on council
activities . These meetings will be held during city office •
hours . As many A&H council members as possible should attend.
Nancy will extend an invitation to the mayor to attend our next
council meeting.
GUEST PRESENTATION
Cheryl Wagner , Director of the "Art in Public Places" department
of the CCAH attended the meeting to familiarize us with her
organization and present ideas on the process of receiving grants
and selecting art. The CCAH is a branch of the State ' s
Department of Higher Education and assists artists and
organizations by giving grants , staff consultations , information
and networking assistance . Their offices are located at the
Grant Humphreys mansion in Denver. Cheryl has invited us to visit
her there and tour the building.
There are four major program areas of the CCAH:
b
11 - Fellowship Grants are administered by Danny Salazar . There
are two categories Master Apprentice & Creative
Fellowships and Folk Art & Native Crafts . The National
Endowment for the Arts partly subsidizes these grants .
-
Arts Organizations Programs are administered by Jim
Thompson. Any non-profit organization may apply for these
grants . They do not necessarily need to be a formal "arts
organization" to apply and receive a grant. This is the
visual arts category. There is no separate public art
project category. Grant requests for public art will be in
competition with other visual arts requests .
- The Art in Public Places is administered by Cheryl Wagner.
By law, one percent of the construction costs of new or
renovated state-owned buildings must be spent on works of
art to improve the character and quality of the buildings .
The Art in Public Places department is responsible for the
 . implementation of this law.
' - The Community Arts Programs is administered by Maryo Yewell
and provides information on organizations created to serve
arts administration. •
Cheryl informed us that the National Endowment for the Arts
Design Arts Program looks favorably on grant requests from the
west because they don ' t receive many.
1 Cheryl suggests that, if possible, the best stage to get involved
