t
10 '
II
in art installation is in the blueprint stage of a facility.
The procedure for selecting an artist is done through a selection •
1 committee. A good committee is made up of varied members . i .e . ,
for the library art project the following types of people could
be appointed: a practicing visual artist, a city council member,
two members of the Arts and Humanities council , a member of the
1 Friends of the Library, a local business person and a local ,
citizen.
II The artist should not be asked to compromise his :art to fit
design needs . It is best if the committe can view actual works •
of the artists rather than slides . Slides may be viewed in the
II Artist Registry then individual artists may be invited to submit
proposals .
•
When an open call for art is done, the committee should be
1 specific on what they are looking for and an amount budgeted for
the art. A notice for an open call may be placed in arts
magazines and local papers . A disclaimer may be put in
b specifying that the artist must be from Boulder county. A
self-addressed , stamped envelope should be requested for return
of slides and other material the artist sends the committee.
II The committee should investigate receiving in-kind donations from
local businesses . i .e . , A frame shop might donate framing of a
painting thereby reducing the cost of the art . Public
I recognition of the in-kind donations must be made in some
manner. The committee should take advantage of the- loyalty and
pride citizens show in a small town to reduce costs of acquiring
1 and installing the art.
The art project should be kept in the press as much as possible
to keep local interest high. Local newspapers may be willing to
Idonate in-kind services for display advertising.
Art proposals from artists should be very specific and include
IIall costs . i .e. , travel expenses , plaques for the art, etc .
TOPICS FOR CONSIDERATION
1 The art selection committee for the Library. art installation
project should be discussed at next meeting.
11 Possible grants available for local community arts and humanities
projects should be reviewed.
P Volunteers for collecting and reviewing the returned citizen
surveys should be named .
11
