Louisville Arts&Humanities Council Minutes 12/21/95 -3- E.Kosinski
• else was going on, handing around a signup sheet for those interested in
attending an organizational meeting was not practical. A mailing will go
out to the LAC Dec. 19th attendees (with a cover letter explaining the
hopes for the proto-organization) and also to those who indicated interest
in the arts at the 1995 Futures Conference.
It is hoped that from this mailing (slated for the first week of Feb or so)
there will emerge a organizational committee that can help jump-start a •
"Patrons" group. Questions to be resolved at the organizational meeting
include: What will membership buy you? Could discounts to LAHC (and
possibly other) events be made available? Would local arts groups
• members become honorary members? Would there be a newsletter and
who will handle it? Could monies collected then be channeled back to
various local arts groups as grants?, etc. NOTE: several folks have already
expressed interest in writing a check for membership!!
C. Board Openings for 1996:
City Council is in the process of reviewing candidates who have applied.
Unfortunately, they were not able to attend this meeting, but should be on
board for 1996. Original by-laws indicated 7, there have been as many as 9,
and with normal attrition, its wise to have a pool of folks interested.
Members are urged to identify folks they think might be interested in
participating, and bring them along to a meeting or two to see how the
LAHC works.
• An introduction to the Arts Council, was discussed, in the form of a
meeting (retreat) concerning members' skill sets, which areas of interest
new members have, and overall goalsetting for the Arts Council. This
meeting should be held as soon as the new members are available. The
best possible match for skill/board position should be sought to maximize
LAHC effectiveness.
.During the CAC Conference in September, panel members strongly
suggested providing new Board members with material (mission
statements, by-laws, historical perspective, recent events, grants already
received and their committments, etc.) concerning the Board and its
responsibilities to the community. This will be worked on for the
"retreat" to provide a solid Board foundation. Nominating and electing
the Board positions will be the first official action of the new Board.
D. Steamboat Springs Arts Council opportunity: (final item of business)
Eva will be spending some time in Steamboat Springs this coming month.
She has asked if it would be OK to contact their Art Council, which not
only has a membership organization, but which also has been involved
with the renovations of a historical building (the Steamboat Art Center
was formerly a train depot). They might have some hints, suggestions,
warnings, etc. that would be useful to us. A motion was made by John
Hansen, seconded by Rachel, and the vote was unanimous.
1111
