language.
Carnival stated that the current code that is
in place is one that a lot of people put a
lot of effort into and time. I recognize
that nothing can be voted on outside of the
public, but if we can't discuss it at a
Chamber dinner with a citizen about a problem
then I feel there is something wrong.
Carnival asked the city attorney if he has
reviewed the current ethics code and found
any problem with it.
Williams stated that he has not reviewed it
in terms of detail in order to tell you if we
should or shouldn't have certain facts. The
language is a little rough but for a document
it is more than adequate for an ethics code.
There can be changes if council or citizen
groups want. What I have seen done is staff
would prepare working language.
Carnival stated he would suggest to have our
staff look at the current code make any
corrections, clean it up, make it more
specific if it needs to be and then allow
council to look at it, then at that time if
we would like to see a citizens group get
involved for their input prior to making a
formal document out of it then I would be all
in favor of that.
Mayor Fauson suggested that we do ask staff
to give us more direction on this or do the
language, that they also look and see where
the bill before state is concerning the
ethics code.
Davidson did not see anything wrong with the
citizens setting higher and more restricted
standards for the council. I think we should
be conducting standards so it meets with the
community.
Sackett liked the idea of having a citizens
advisory committee, the only thing that I am
troubled with is the possibility that we
don't utilize the represented government
concept. What I would like to do is
establish how many people would be interested
in being on this committee and then based on
those maybe the council could establish a
board that we think would represent all
to
