Carnival: We have hired a City Administrator and she directly
reports to us. She in turn has hired professionals in their
fields to do their jobs in each of the departments and for us to
go down to the level that Councilman Howard and Councilman
Davidson has over the weekend or through the past three or four
days, although they have ever right to do that as Council people,
I think it is probably more appropriate to address these concerns
with the City Administrator to see if we can't solve them some
other way rather than airing our dirt laundry in public. I feel
the first step is to go to the City Administrator and then if our
concerns are not addressed then bring it to Council. We can not
be effective if we continue to air our laundry out in public.
Davidson: If I have disagreed with a member of city staff that
does not mean that I don't approve of the way the work is being
handled. My own personnel opinion of the City Administrator and
City staff is for the city of this size we have a pretty good
one. But that doesn't mean that I agree with everything they do.
My purpose of going to the rec center was to get a general feel
not to determine whether the rec center is being properly run.
Howard: I do feel that I went to the City Administrator with my
concerns and all I got was nasty comments in written form. If I
can't get the information that I want and there is not a reasona-
ble reason when I can expect to have it or not expect to have it,
when it's going to council, when it's not going to council, if it
has to go council. When in fact all I get is that I am being
unreasonable, then I don't see a whole lot of choices.
Brand: This is not a nastygram, this is a memo to the Council to
give me direction. Council will get the information if Council
decides that its needs to have it in regard to the valuation of
the rec center.
Sackett: For the past two days I have been very worried about the
city and I think we are falling apart. I think we need to work
harder. I think we need to talk about it. I don't know what
Councilman Davidson had in mind, before we actually passed the
budget we had front page coverage on the local newspaper. What
that did was really harmful to the team process. What it made one
feel like was to fight. If I would do this it would make things
worse. If we continue not caring about each other we won`t do
anything positive for the city. We as a group, in my opinion,
are being perceived as a council without a sense of direction. I
think you can still have strong opinions as long as we can work
together. We have to come together as a team.
Hornbostel: Felt one of problems is that it is very hard to come
together as a team if we have no goals. When we haven't set
goals the things that remain in place are what were there. A lot
of us that are coming in brand new feel like we are fighting an
up hill battle. We have not had our chance to say our goals for
the city are "this" or "that". What we need to do is sit down
and set goals and objectives.
4
