Historical Commission
Minutes
March 19, 2015
Page 5of5
XIII. Louisville History Foundation update
A. The LHF has added new members with a variety of skills and talents. These new
members are ready to start work on a capital campaign to help fund a new visitor
center building and the proposed changes to the Museum campus at such time that
the City has decided to include the project in the 5 -year CIP.
B. LHF members discussed ways to get citizens involved, as well as identifying
potential donors.
C. Naming rights of parts of the Museum campus in exchange for major donations as
part of a capital campaign were discussed. Bridget said that she wanted the LHC to
know that the Foundation is looking into this possibility as a way to help fund the new
visitor center building and the other campus improvements. Bridget stated that the
City has indicated that this is allowable for City buildings, but the City will likely need
to approve a final plan. The Foundation board has discussed how they would want
naming rights to be indicated in a simple and tasteful way through informational
plaques, and the rights would last for a fixed period, such as three years, at which time
donors would re -up or there would be new donors found who want naming rights.
The LHF intends to develop something in writing to provide to the City. LHC members
expressed that they are comfortable with this idea, and also expressed their desire
that the name of the new visitor center building would remain as the "Community
House," which is the name that was proposed in Metcalfe's needs assessment report.
XIV. Commission comments & discussion items for the next meeting:
A discussion of the Museum's operational budget for 2016 will be on the May agenda.
XV.
