He stated his
desire to make downtown a more vibrant shopping area and noted that if residents want
downtown to be successful they need to shop there.

Lewis asked for any additional comments, seeing none she closed the public hearing
and asked for Commission comments and questions.

COMMISSION COMMENTS

Lewis began by saying she had recently visited Geneva, Illinois and noted t
similar downtown. With the right buildings and shops Louisville could make
magnet for people.

Koertje thanked the residents for their comments. He noted the limite 'urisdiction of the
HPC as it can only place a stay on a demolition request, not deny it. H
HPC has been reviewing a great many demolition permits. He encourag residents to
let both the Planning Commission and City Council memb know that they support the
preservation of historic structures and the historic charact ain Street.

Tofte thanked the residents for their interest and
the nonconsensuallandmarking be added to th r
applicant for having this discussion and listening to th

dance. She stated her desire that
e. She also thanked the
mbers of the community.

Muckle also thanked the residents for coming and speaking. She encouraged residents
to landmark their buildings if they qualify. She noted that the only landmarked buildings
in town are all City-owned.

McMenamin stated that he was a pa t in the subcommittee review for the project.
He noted that 844 Main Street has the most architectural integrity and has some unique
characteristics and is in a location. He feels it could be the benchmark of the
development of the entir and could let the theme for the development.

Lewis added that she too was on the subcommittee and agrees with McMenamin's
comments that 844 could be used as the inspiration for the greater development of the
corner. By u' the existing character of 844 when developing the remainder of the site,
the projec ring something new without losing the exiting building and character.

d residents for their participation in the public hearing. She stated her
belief that devel ers do care about Louisville when they do business here. She noted
that developers generally look at an area to determine what is needed and how to
accommodate that prior to development. She encouraged the applicant to ask the
community what they want to see downtown and use that as a guide for a development
that can be done without losing the character of downtown.

Lewis added that this development can be the precedent for other developments
downtown that can be done without losing the historic fabric of the area.
