City Council
Meeting Minutes
May 6, 2008
PUBLIC COMMENT
Michael Menaker, 1827 W. Choke Cherry Drive, Louisville, CO voiced his
concern over the Questions 17, 20 and 21. He was concerned with the outcome
of Question 17, regarding the historic value of downtown buildings. With respect
to Question 20, increasing building height limits in downtown and in the urban
renewal area, and Question 21, regarding commercial areas, he felt those
questions should be broken into two parts. He noted some issues are volatile,
such as FasTracks and historic preservation. He recommended more frequent
surveys to more than 2000 residents.
John Leary, 1116 LaFarge Avenue, Louisville, CO felt some questions were
inappropriate, such as puttincl wind turbines and solar panels on open space and
asking if the resident voted in the last election. He suggested the most cost
effective measure would be for the City to join the Xcel Energy Wind Power
Program. He suggested addling more current questions.
Councilor Sackett opposed asking whether the residents rent or own. He was
troubled by a different height limit in the urban renewal area. He stated citizens
have inquired about apartment buildings on the west side of McCaslin and
suggested a question as to whether residential units should be allowed there.
Councilor Muckle suggested the four-story building question be struck. He
agreed with a question relative to multi-family housing in Centennial Valley.
Councilor Clabots suggested a question relative to a Transit Oriented
Development along McCaslini.
Mayor Sisk pointed out Centennial Valley is a commercial area. He opposed
Transit Oriented Development along McCaslin because it would displace
businesses. He suggested a question regarding three-story buildings in the urban
renewal area only. He was ire favor of a historic preservation tax question, but
noted the answer will be too late for a ballot question. He supported a survey
question relative to alternative energy.
Councilor Muckle agreed the more residents included in the survey, the better.
He supported a survey question relative to alternative energy, but preferred it not
be in the open space areas.
Mayor Pro Tem Marsella stated the public does not consider McCaslin as a
Transit Oriented Development. She stressed the importance of asking that
question in the Highway 42 area. She agreed the building height limit question
should only be asked on the Highway 42 redevelopment area.
