3/i5/84 Page -5- <br />arbara Sperl, 1032 Pine St. Ms. Sperl stated that she was with the <br />#4, Boulder Boulder County Community Action Program. <br />ThE=_ Teen Job Bank was the first project <br />that was developed by the Lafayette/ Louis- <br />ville Youth Task Force. This was done by <br />ini~erest expressed by the youth of the two <br />communities. The Youth Task Force was formed <br />in the fall of 1982 to start addressing the <br />youth needs within this sector of Boulder <br />County A youth group was then formed to get <br />thE,ir direct feed-back. During this meeting <br />of approximately 30 youths, the number one <br />need expressed by this group was the develop- <br />ment and expansion of job opportunities. <br />ThE, Teen Job Bank began operating in February <br />of 1983. A youth manager was hired out for <br />thE~ project, under the supervision of 6 <br />vo]Lunteers, in an office space donated thru <br />thE~ Community Schools at Centaraus High School. <br />The project was not developing as well as <br />could be because of the lack of continuity <br />with the supervisors not being there full <br />time. At this time they wrote the Mile High <br />United Way requesting a grant and were for- <br />tunate to receive. With this funding they <br />hiY-ed out an adult supervisor/coordinator <br />anti the program has progressed very well. <br />ThE:ir grant will be up in August of 1984, <br />anti they were requesting financial assistance <br />from the council to carry them thru the <br />remainder of this year. They are applying <br />foY- this assistance from a number of organi- <br />zations, foundations, etc. as well as the <br />Lafayette City Council. <br />Betsy Fehsenfeld, 905 Juniper Ms.. Fehensenfield stated that she had been <br />Boulder coordinating the Teen Job Bank since Sept. <br />12 ,, 1983 and 201 youth had registered with <br />thE: program since it was opened, of which <br />62 or 31~ are Louisville residents. They <br />have 141 employers who are using the Job <br />Barak and 63 or 43% are Louisville employers. <br />There was interchange among the teenagers, <br />some of the Louisville youth working in <br />Laf=ayette and vice versa. Of the 201 youth <br />registered in the program 101 have been placed <br />in jobs or 78%. <br />In reply to Councilman Leary's questions, <br />Ms.. Fehsenfeld advised other organizations <br />from which funds are being sought were <br />Chambers of Commerce, Boulder Zanta Business <br />Wor-men's Organization, Boulder County United <br />
