Page -7-

building, which would be a considerable
financial loss for Memorial Hospital, that
the relationship between the two hospitals
will become worse than in the past.
Administrator Wurl inquired if this was part
of the original plan - the concept that
they would be part of that facility?
Hibbard replied the original plan was generally
the fact that St:. Anthony's Hospital was
quite interested in building an ' Emergency
Unit facility into this area. Boulder Com-
munity was frightened by this and wanted to
have the monopoly on this area and so they
convinced Lafayette not to entertain St.
Anthony's proposals, if in turn Community
would provide an Emergency facility and
staff it with Community Emergency room doctors.
They asked for the "support" of Boulder Memor-
ial Hospital and Memorial agreed to do that;
however he did not know the details of that
support. Memorial maintains that they never
promised that they would underwrite it in
financial terms l' but with the capabilities
that they had which are support services, i.e.
physical therapy, etc. and a letter of agree-
ment that they are in favor of that proposal.
Community is saying ti:.hatt.hey have to sup-
port us financially.
Dr. Hibbard advised that one of the final
meetings is taking place April 6th at 10:00 A.M.
between Mr. Clark, Administrator of Community
and Mr. McFetridge of l1emorial, as well as
the members of the Board of Directors of
both hospitals; therefore time is of the
essence.

Councilman Ferrera

Suggested that Dr. Hibbard speak with the
President of the Louisville Chamber of Com-
merce for their support also. He also re-
quested that Amrrinistrator Wurl prepare a
letter similar to the one sent to Community
Hospital be sent to Memorial.
Dr. Hibbard suggested a phone call tomorrow
morning may also be appropriate to Mr. Mc
Fetridge.

Stated that he had called Mr. McFetridge's
assistant and hE~ wouldn't recognize that
any pressure was being put on Memorial at
all - stated l1emorial volunteered to do this.
Presently it is a blank piece of paper with
some square footage and not even on the drawings.

Mayor Meier
