Councilman Leary

Motion to Direct City Admin-
istrator to Write Letter to
Community Hospital

DIRECTION TO THE PLANNING
COMMISSION

Page -8-

Oouncilman Ferrera also stated that he
tried to reach Hr. Clark of Memorial Hospital
but was unable to do so.
Dr. Hibbard advised that if he had spoken
with Mr. Clark or Joyce Thompson, who is
head of the Physical Therapy Department,
he felt that they would have expressed their
desire to go ahead with their expansion plans
of the therapy unit in Louisville.

Stated the directions Council gave for writ-
ing the letter to Boulder Memorial was essen-
tially that health should be the major factor
in making this decision, not whether it was
in Lafayette on in Louisville. He thought
the issue was that Boulder Memorial was
moving out of Christopher Village and the
decision that they were going to have to make
was whether to go to Louisville Medical Cen-
ter or to this other place. His feeling was
that the City was getting involved in some
big competition for some big dollars; and
the primary issue is "bucks." He felt the
Council should keep the primary issue health
care for its citizens. Did not favor making
this a Louisville versus Lafayette issue.
Dr. Hibbard replied he agreed; however felt
that they could provide these services no
matter where they are located. Their largest
number of patients have been coming from
Louisville and he felt it was more convenient
to retain the facility here. Also, felt
there was a lot of money involved in the issue.

Councilman Ferrera moved, Councilman Fauson
seconded that Administrator Wurl write a
letter to Boulder Community and Boulder Memorial
Hopital stating our interest that we would
like to keep thE~ Physical Therapy Unit in
Louisville. Que~stion called for. 6 Ayes,
Councilman Cussen abstained. Motion carried.
Copies of letters to Boulder Memorial and
Boulder Community Hospitals to be provided
to councilmembers.

Councilman Leary stated at the last meeting
a motion was made and later withdrawn; but
before the next Planning Commission meeting
Council would give direction to them on
issues relating to growth, annexations, etc.
Felt these issues should be discussed at
this time.
