City Council
Meeting Minutes
June 21, 2022
Page 5of9
Councilmember Leh expressed concern about delegating this process to the applicants.
Planner Kay Marchetti stated there is a certification process used to prove it has
happened. Councilmember Leh supports the idea of doing a postcard, but remains
uncomfortable delegating the process to the applicant.
Councilmember Brown would like this ordinance to also address the 750 foot radius for
notification. He doesn't feel this ordinance is ready to be moved forward.
Public Comments
Mark Cathcart, 763 Sweet Clover Lane, stated his support for a postcard over a letter.
He added that he receives notifications for projects in Lafayette as they have a 750-foot
notification rule, but some of the residents in his neighborhood don't get notice of
Louisville projects due to the 500-foot radius.
Councilmember Dickinson supports the 750-foot radius to be used, to transition to
postcards, and perhaps use a third party and charge applicants for this process.
Mayor Pro Tern Maloney would like to see the 750-foot radius included and for the City
to outsource and charge for this process to recover costs as appropriate.
Councilmember Most agreed the process should be outsourced and that the radius
needs to be increased.
Mayor Stolzmann stated this requirement is very important so people know changes
could be coming to an area. She agreed the City needs to make sure we are providing
good quality notice. She heard every councilperson say they support a 750 foot radius.
She noted Council supports streamlining the process and reducing staff work, but
putting the requirement on the applicant is not the appropriate solution.
Councilmember Leh questions whether 750 feet should be there for all kinds of
applications and would look to see where a smaller distance may be appropriate. Mayor
Pro Tern Maloney agreed.
Public Comments — None.
Members discussed next steps given the changes they want to see.
MOTION: Mayor Stolzmann moved to continue the item to July 19, 2022 at 6 pm;
seconded by Councilmember Dickinson.
VOTE: All in favor.
