LC140 Louisville
MEMORANDUM
To: Open Space Advisory Board
From: Open Space Division
Date: November 9, 2022
Re: Information Item 6: Staff Updates
General:
Marshall Fire Updates Pertaining to Open Space:
1. "Wildfire Hazard and Risk Assessment of Louisville Public Lands" Request for
Proposals (RFP) document. City staff reviewed, scored, and discussed submitted
Proposals from three vendors and determined the need for additional clarification
of deliverables before awarding a contract.
2. Open Space Staff will be joining the Boulder County Fireshed Grassland
Workgroup. This is a new collaborative group that will be kicking off in December.
Natural Resources:
3. Staff is evaluating potential prescriptive grazing to reduce fine fuels, reduce
noxious weeds, and enhance soil health. Properties being considered include
Davidson Mesa and North Open Space. Staff will bring this item to OSAB for
input on public perception regarding this new practice.
4. Prairie dogs from select areas on Open Space will be relocated to a new site in
Pueblo in November. Prairie dogs will be removed from over -populated colonies,
or to prevent encroachment onto private lands, and to promote a more stable
and healthier ecosystem. This relocation effort is in partnership with Colorado
Parks and Wildlife and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and will help support the
reintroduction of the endangered Black -Footed Ferret.
5. Coyote Run Slope project by Public Works is complete. Staff will be taking over
vegetation management of the area. Currently no observed slope erosion, and
good vegetative cover and native species have established in the disturbed area.
6. Staff has installed 1,500' of new fencing on Davidson Mesa to help prevent the
spread of prairie dogs onto adjacent properties.
7. The Open Space weed control contractor has treated perennials on Davidson
Mesa.
11
