AUDIENCE COMMENTS DUANE ELROD - FIRE CHIEF Chief Elrod was present to inform Coun- cil of two policies the fire - rescue unit has. He stated that it is the de- partment policy to have both the plectron and siren blown at the time of emergencies as it is not possible for the squad in the City to carry their plectrons while working. Councilman DiCarlo stated that if the policies are to be printed the fire department should make sure they are uniform. Chief Elrod stated that there have been several cases where ~he rescue unit has been called for the transporting of a party and not under an emergency basis. He stated that during the day there is a skelton crew and they can not be making ambulance runs. Chief Elrod stated that they want to keep the rescue squad and want the Councils cooperation in letting the squad make the decision in what is classified an emergency as several cases have called the unit for tran- sporting to the hospital. In this case Mr. Elrod stated that a member of the department will stay with the party until a private ambulance service arrives to transport. Chris Schmidt, Captain of the Fire Res- cue Squad, briefed Council on the training program for each man in the squad. He stated that there were four men on the squad who have completed the state emergency mdeical technician program which consists of both classroom and emergency room training in a hospital. Councilman DelPizzo stated that he was , called by a party who had called the res- cue squad but was not transported and this made her upset. Mr. Schmidt stated that the party in question was having a seisure and it was his decision not to transport; however he did stay with the party until the seisure was completed and the party was trans- ported by private ambulance.
