RFGULAR MEETING ITEMS FROM PEOPLE IN ATTENDANCE NOT APPEARING ON THE AGENDA ..JOUISYILLE CITY COUNCIL MAY 21, 1974 been contacted and work will be done soon. Mr. Jack Lang passed out a letter to Mayor and all members of the Council regarding Sproul annexation as well as the press, and an opinion poll taken containing 712 signatures. Mr. Lang then read the letter in entirety expressing opposition to Sproul annexation and requiring the issue be brought to a vote of the people, by special election. Mayor Waschak stated that he was alarmed that only the opposition were present and none of the local citizens supporting the annexation were present to express their opinion. Councilwoman Scholl expressed her appreciation to the people in attendance for their opinion, even though she mayor may not be in accord. Mr. Conarroe expressed his concern regarding the referendum vote each time an issue comes up that causes a controversy. Councilman Berry stated his opinion that most people were concerned with IIcontrolled growthll and he knew of no better way to control growth than to annex. To answer the question of where annexation would end, he stated economically no further than the top of the hill at South Boulder Road. Bill Gans read his letter in entirety ex- pressing his opposition - copy in file. Councilwoman Dhieux stated the key factors in her decision to vote yes for the annexa- tion were two words - IIprogressll - witp in- dustry-development of housing is bound to come next. The other key word is IIcontrolll and these are the two words that my decision is based on. Councilman DiCarlo commented he admitted that he shut out all opposition against Sproul, because they were simply against Sproul without any other consideration. - 3 -
