B. Trail Requests:
1. SW Lvons. old South St. Vrain Road to Hall Ranch on /along Highway 7: Would provide a
key and safe connection between Lyons and Hall Ranch. The current pathway is unsafe, yet
heavily traveled by joggers, walkers, and bikers.
Status: The County will begin planning this important regional trail connection in the
next year. Approximately $120,000 is currently allocated in the Capital Improvement
Project budget beginning in 2005 and continuing through 2007 for trail connections
between Heil Valley Ranch, Lyons and Hall Ranch.
2. Lyons Greenway Trail to Rt. 36 underpass. This trail could connect to Boulder Reservoir and
Longmont trails in the future. Lyons could use help with all the traffic in and out of town
trying to take advantage of existing BOCO Open Space /trails, as well as our own. We see
these as obvious, logical, and necessary links /pathways.
Status: This link is included within the St. Vrain Greenways plan. The Town of Lyons
is to take lead on all trail links west of US 36. Boulder County is working to link the
Boulder Feeder Canal Trail and St. Vrain Greenway to the underpass at US 36.
• 3. Connection from Lyons to Heil Ranch. This is a logical, high -use link and would provide
better access to BOCO Open Space and outdoor recreational opportunities.
Status: See response to number 1 above.
SUPERIOR (2002)
A. Open Space Requests: none at the present time.
B. Trail Requests:
1. Link between Marshall /Mesa trailhead, by using the old railroad bed to the trail described in
Town of Superior, trail project #4. Trail approximately parallels Marshall Road. No land
needs to be purchased as access is on Boulder County Open Space. The community may
consider cost share.. As is the case for Town of Superior, this trail project #1, and projects
#2,3, and 4, this trail is a critical segment of a large loop trail from Superior through Boulder
County Open Space to the west and back that our community envisions as a highly valuable
asset to Superior and Boulder County alike. Currently, a popular route for recreationists
encompasses the Old Coalton Road Trail from McCaslin west to Highway 128. The.route
continues west on Hwy. 128 to the Mesa Trail, north to Marshall road east back to Superior.
A much more desirable route would not involve bicycle or pedestrian travel on the narrow
Marshall Road or Hwy 128. Secondly, this trail (along with Town of Superior trail project
#4) will provide safe bicycle commuting opportunities to and from Superior, Eldorado
Springs, and Boulder. Lastly, this trail benefits both the town of Superior as well as residents
of Boulder County who commute through this region and who come to enjoy Boulder County
Open Space in the vicinity.
Status: As part of the-Boulder County Regional Trails Committee work, it was
determined that Boulder County would continue to pursue the use of Coal Creek Drive
west of Superior as the link to Marshall Mesa Trailhead and the City. of Boulder . trail
system. There are no current plans for a trail paralleling SH 170 from Superior to S.
66` Ave. From S. 66 Ave. to Marshall Mesa Trailhead the City of Boulder plans on
constructing a trail paralleling SH 170 in 2004 -2005. Boulder County has recently
completed a portion of new trail and a pedestrian bridge over Coal Creek on the
Mayhoffer /Singletree property and hopes to complete a small trailhead for vehicle
parking as plans progress for use of Coal Creek Drive as a trail.
2.
