Ditch (or some other logical route to connect with the Marshall/Mesa Trail). This would link
Original Superior to Old Coalton Road Trail. No land needs to be purchased as access is on
Boulder County Open Space. The community may consider cost share. As is the case for
Town of Superior, trail projects #1, #3, and #4, the current project suggestion #2 is a critical
segment of a large loop trail from Superior through Boulder County Open Space to the west
and back that our community envisions as a highly valuable asset to Superior and Boulder
County alike. Currently, a popular route fro recreationalists encompasses the Old Coalton
Road Trail from McCaslin west to Highway 128. The route continues west on Hwy 128 to
the Mesa Trail, north to Marshall road east back to Superior. A much more desirable route
would not involve bicycle or pedestrian travel on the narrow Marshall Road or Hwy 128.
This trail benefits both the town of Superior as well as residents of Boulder County who
commute through this region and who come to enjoy Boulder County Open Space in the
vicinity.
Status: No plans to pursue this link due to City of Boulder concerns of impact to open
space. The City of Boulder is currently planning to complete the trail link between
Coalton Trail and Greenbelt Plateau Trailhead that will generally parallel SH 128. This
connection will serve to link the Coalton Trail and Marshall Mesa area.
3. Link between Old Coalton Road Trailhead and the Coal Creek trail through Boulder County
Open Space (roughly at Original Town Superior). This trail approximately parallels McCaslin
Blvd. Length of the trail is approximately 1.5 miles. No land needs to be purchased as access
is on Boulder County Open Space. The community may consider cost share. This trail joins
Old Town Superior with the newer Rock Creek Ranch subdivision and it offers a non-
motorized vehicle passage parallel to the congested McCaslin Blvd. As is the case for Town
of Superior trail project #1 and #4, the current project suggestion, #3, and project #2, this trail
is a critical segment of a large loop trail from Superior through Boulder County Open Space
to the west and back that our community envisions as a highly valuable asset to Superior and
Boulder County alike. Secondly, this trail will provide safe bicycle commuting opportunities to and from
Original Town Superior to Flatirons Crossing and Interlocken. Lastly, this trail benefits both
the town of Superior as well as residents of Boulder County who commute through this region
and who come to enjoy Boulder County Open Space in the vicinity.
Status: Partial funding for this link has been secured by Boulder County through the
DRCOG TIP process, with construction possible in 2005. This will be a joint project
with Boulder County Transportation and Open Space Departments. Boulder County
has allocated approximately $40,000 in its Capital Improvement Project budget for 2007
to supplement Transportation funding.
4. Coal Creek Drive Marshall Road west of the Sagamore Subdivision on the old railroad
bed. This is the western edge of Superior in the vicinity of Original Superior. The trail is
approximately 2/3` mile. No land needs to be purchased as access is on Boulder County
Open Space. The community may consider cost share.
