The proposed monument sign would be setback thirty-two feet from the curb of South Boulder Road. The
right-of-way extends seventeen feet from the curb and a fifteen-foot easement extends beyond the
property line. The sign has been revised to include a brick base. The Centrobe logo and 'EDS Company'
text would be mounted to the cabinet face. A material known as dantex would be applied to the cabinet
face. Staff is concerned that the dantex surface has a high gloss and may not be durable. The Commercial
Development Design Standards and Guidelines (CDDSG) require that signs be constructed of durable,
high quality architectural materials. Moreover, sign materials should incorporate similar materials found
in the associated structure. To better comply with the CDDSG and Planning Commission conditions, staff
is recommending that the sign face should be constructed of gray-colored stucco, and the logo panel
should be recessed one-inch into the sign face, resulting in a flush-mounted appearance. The Centrobe
letters would be mounted to this panel.
The applicant has included a revised landscape plan to represent the required landscape improvements
around the monument sign. The adjacent planting bed will extend out to envelop the area of the sign, will
contain a variety of flowering perennials, and will be done in a meandering fashion so as to appear more
informal and natural in design.

The applicant has met or has agreed to meet most of the Planning Commission conditions.

Davidson called for the applicant's presentation.

Johnston replied that his previous comments on the Centrobe sign at Centennial Parkway would also
apply to this sign.

Davidson called for Council comments and questions.

Mayer asked Wood for the size difference between the proposed sign and the previously approved sign.

Wood replied that the square footage of the previously approved sign was not available.

Johnston replied that the previous sign has eleven feet long, approximately two-and-a-half feet high, and
three feet off the ground.

Wood stated that the proposed sign is double-faced and is perpendicular to South Boulder Road, versus
parallel. The previous sign was a single-faced sign. The CDDSG do not preclude double-faced signs;
however, the size limitation is 4'x8'.

Sisk questioned whether the monument sign is illuminated.

Wood replied that the sign is not illuminated.

Johnston stated that they had initially asked for an illuminated sign but agreed that there is no reason for
an illuminated sign.

9
