Mayer stated that very few people even knew it had opened. He expressed concern that
Rite Aid did not have a representative present for the PUD discussions. He questioned
why Rite Aid did not change some of the internally lit window signs, such as 'open 24-
hours' and 'photo processing', into 'pharmacy' signs.

Coleman replied that they would prefer to have it on the building so that people will
notice it.

Mayer stated that he did not see the need for additional signs when some of the
internally-lit window signs could be converted to read 'pharmacy'. He requested that Rite
Aid consider that option.

Davidson stated that the community of Louisville is very sensitive to signs, and he has
received comments from citizens that Council has already approved too many signs. He
stated that every development in Centennial Valley requested more signs than they
received approval for. He explained that when the PUD for Rite Aid was negotiated, it
included building height, architecture, landscaping, and signs, and if Rite Aid wanted a
'pharmacy' sign, it should have been included in the initial PUD. He stated that he would
be willing to listen if Rite Aid is willing to reopen negotiations on all these items. He
agreed with Mayer's suggestion to replace one of the internally-lit window signs with one
that reads 'pharmacy'. He explained that he uses the Rite Aid pharmacy and did not have
any difficulty locating it. He did not object to the additional directional sign but wasn't
sure that a regular customer would need it to find their way around. He suggested
reducing the size of the current 'Rite Aid' signs and include the word 'pharmacy' within
the approved square footage.
Coleman replied that they are within the square footage approved on the PUD.

Lathrop agreed with Levihn that this appears to be an oversight. He did not object to the
proposed sign package and felt that it would help the business get established.

Davidson stated that the Ruby Tuesday restaurant also stated that all their stores are
identical in paint color and neon banding, however, that was not the case. He stated that if
a business wants to operate within a community, they build their store to meet the
community standards.

Lathrop replied that he did not believe the Rite Aid request was unreasonable.

Sisk asked Wood for clarification that the lights.in the drive-through canopy will be
shielded regardless of the decision on the sign package.

Wood replied, yes.

Sisk asked Coleman if the Meadows Rite Aid contained the word 'pharmacy' it its signs.

10
