Davidson called for Council questions and comments. <br /> <br />Howard expressed concern that the current Rite Aid sign has not been repaired or <br />replaced after three months, as it still reads 'Rit Aid' at night. He explained that the City <br />of Louisville is very stringent in enforcing the 'look and feel' regulations of the <br />community. The current state of Rite Aid's sign does not make the business look good or <br />fit well into the community. He asked when the sign would be repaired. <br /> <br />Coleman replied that they have had a number of problems getting the sign to light up <br />properly. They have ordered a new cabinet, neon, and transformer for the sign, which <br />should arrive in approximately 4-5 days. <br /> <br />Howard stated that the signage for this building was approved not long ago and he <br />believes that every corporation in Louisville would like to have increased signage, as Rite <br />Aid is requesting. He questioned why Council should approve this request and stated that <br />the 'pharmacy' portion of the Rite Aid name should have been addressed in the initial <br />sign package. <br /> <br />Coleman agreed with Howard. He stated that Rite Aid did not have any representatives in <br />Colorado when the architects were seeking site approval and signage was not a priority <br />for them. He agreed that it was not handled properly. <br /> <br />Howard stated that he has heard numerous comments from customers and employees of <br />Rite Aid that the store isn't as busy as they expected, and no one knew the store was open <br />until recently. He stated that neither the Chamber of Commerce nor the local hospital was <br />aware that Rite Aid was opening. He questioned whether the reason for the increased <br />signage request was to help inform the public of its existence and the type of business <br />that it operates. He questioned why Rite Aid would not use less expensive, traditional <br />advertising to do that. He asked Coleman if Rite Aid is willing to make some level of <br />commitment to the community to tie into the community structure both with advertising <br />as well as contacting the various organizations that can help promote the business. <br /> <br />Coleman replied that, as the construction director for Rite Aid, he is not involved in the <br />day-to-day operations but he agreed to ask the district manager, Robert Smith, to contact <br />Howard in that regard. He expressed willingness to be involved in the community. <br /> <br />Howard suggested that Coleman ask the district manager to contact the City <br />Administrator. <br /> <br />Keany asked Coleman whether all Rite Aid stores contained pharmacies. <br /> <br />Coleman replied, yes. <br /> <br />Keany stated that he looked through the Rite Aid newspaper advertisement over the <br />weekend. He found a one-and-a-half-inch band on the front panel that contained the word <br /> <br /> <br />
